Altman to Take on Assistant State Budget Officer Role for OSBM Budget Development team welcomes new ASBO

This week, the Office of State Budget and Management (OSBM) announced Brett Altman’s appointment to the position of Assistant State Budget Officer (ASBO) for Budget Development. 

Altman has extensive experience working in financial and policy roles in North Carolina.  Most recently he served as Deputy Director for Budget Performance and Analysis for the NC Department of Health and Human Services. Before that, Altman was a Principal Analyst with OSBM. He also spent several years in the Fiscal Research Division of the North Carolina General Assembly and nearly nine years as a policy analyst for the North Carolina Rural Economic Development Center. 

“We are excited to have Brett rejoin our team and take on this important leadership role,” expressed State Budget Director Kristin Walker. “His experience and insight will be greatly appreciated as we navigate the budget and policy issues North Carolina faces.”

Altman has a master’s degree from UNC-Chapel Hill and his bachelor’s from the University of Georgia.  He joins ASBO Darryl Childers in leading the Budget Development section of OSBM. Budget Development is focused on developing the Governor’s budget recommendations, policy analysis, and working with state agencies on operational excellence initiatives such as strategic planning and program evaluation.
