Bob Coats, North Carolina’s State Data Center Coordinator and Census Liaison, has been reelected to chair the nine-member Steering Committee for the US State Data Center (SDC) program. Mr. Coats will serve a one-year term as chair. This is his second term as chair of the committee.
The State Data Center Program is a network of affiliates across the United States and its territories comprised of statistical agencies, state demographers, and data-providing organizations. The members have provided the public with access to Census data and other population resources for more than 40 years.
As the elected representatives of this nationwide network, members of the Steering Committee meet with the US Census Bureau regularly to discuss population data and upcoming data releases. The Committee encourages the flow of information and ideas among the individual member agencies and between the member agencies and the Census Bureau. The Steering Committee is also responsible for planning the Annual State Data Center Conference.
“State Data Centers play an important role as premiere local partners with the US Census Bureau and local communities. I am honored to have been elected to the SDC Steering Committee and to serve as chair,” said Mr. Coats. “Their work is vital to creating accessible and accurate information to serve the needs of states and communities across the nation. I look forward to working with SDC network members and the Census Bureau in this vital period as the first data from the 2020 Census data are released.”
