Today marks a new milestone for the state’s Council of Internal Auditing as newly-appointed State Controller Nels Roseland took the helm chairing the Council for the first time. Under state statute (G.S. 143-747), North Carolina’s State Controller serves as chair of the Council.
It was also the inaugural meeting for the Council’s first legislative appointees. Bradley J. Newkirk of Guilford County and Nick Stone of Wake County were appointed to the Council this month by the president pro tempore of the North Carolina Senate and the speaker of the North Carolina House.
Special guest state Senator McInnis joined the Council for today’s meeting, addressing the General Assembly’s interest in internal auditing capacity in the state. Senator McInnis was a key sponsor of 2021 legislation to strengthen internal auditing in the state.
The Council of Internal Auditing was created in 2007 by the North Carolina General Assembly as part of the North Carolina Internal Auditing Act. It provides guidelines for standards, capacity, and best practices for state agency internal auditing programs. The work of the Council is supported by the Central Office of Internal Audit in the North Carolina Office of State Budget and Management.
